Do you want to create a name for your district with a signature special event? Fruitvale's Dia de los Muertos Festival attracts more than 75,000 people annually and generates $30,000 for the district’s revitalization efforts. In 2000, the event was inducted into the permanent collection of the American Folklife Center at the U.S. Library of Congress and in 2001, California Main Street awarded Fruitvale's program with the revitalization achievement award for its Dia de los Muertos efforts.

Are you struggling to find a source of on-going funding for your revitalization efforts? I successfully implemented a Business Improvement District (BID) in Fruitvale that is providing a steady income stream of $224,000 annually to fund staff, safety and cleanliness initiatives and serves as a leverage to attract further funding.

Do you want to implement a high-impact matching grant façade program? In Fruitvale, we completed over 100 façades during a five-year period, representing $2.7 million in private investment and another $2.1 million in public investment. We used inexpensive visual tools to demonstrate "before and after" images to encourage participation in the program.
